Biography
Elena Prokina is one of the outstanding Russian singers of her generation, as successful throughout the world in Russian repertoire as she is in Italian, French roles in Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, Poulenc and others. The geography of her travels is impressive: hardly had her international career taken off before she had already been twice to the Edinburgh Festival and the Britten Festival in Aldeburgh (United Kindom), and sung at the Colon (Buenos Aires), Covent Garden (London), San Carlo (Lisbon), Monte Carlo, La Scala in Milan, San Fransisco, Sydney and Los Angeles.
While still a graduate student, Elena was invited to join Kirov-Mariinski Theatre in Sankt Petersburg, where she had her debut in many leading roles: Marguerite in Faust, Desdemona in Othello, Violetta in La Traviata, Pauline in The Gambler, Tatiana in Eugeny Oneghin, Natasha Rostova in ‘War and Peace’.
Elena won first prize in Maria Caniglia international vocal competition(Sulmona, Italy). She received Evening Standard Award in a section of Outstanding Opera Performance for the interpretation of the title role of Katya Kabanova in Covent Garden. She was nominated with Grammy for the role of Natasha Rostova in ‘War in Peace’ by Prokofiev.
Elena Prokina’s triumph in the role of Tatiana in “Eugeny Onegin’ in Glyndebourne(1996) led to avalanche of invitation from Opera Houses from over the world so much that the part became for a while a kind of her trademark of her success: Amsterdam, San Francisco, Berlin, Sydney , Saint Louis(USA), Tel Aviv and others.
For her American debut she received the role of Donna Anna in Los Angeles conducted by Lawrence Foster. Her performance was immediately followed up by invitation to return the next year in a technically difficult role of Lina in Stiffelio by Verdi.
Long lasting collaboration with Zurich Opera brought to her repertoire such parts as Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra, Tosca, Elisabetha in Don Carlo, Lucrezia Contarini in I due Foscari, Giselda in Lombardi and Micaela in Carmen. She have sung on this stage Faust’s Margarete and Desdemona.
To the Netherlands Opera period refer such parts as Tatiana, Desdemona, Jenufa, Iolanta.
Elena Prokina performed in Sydney with parts as Tatiana, Amelia, Butterfly and Desdemona. She took part in an Art program of Olympic games of 2000 in Sydney.
Elena has been a performer for different charity programs and UNESCO.
She had solo concerts in London, Antwerp, Barcelona, Luxembourg, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ghent, Aldeburgh, Wien, Porto, Edinburgh, Las Palmas and concerts in Rotterdam, Bavarian Opera, in Leipzig Gewandhaus, in Berlin Philharmony,in Salle Pleyel in Paris, St. Peters Basilica, in Albert Royal Hall, Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall in London, in Köln Philharmony , in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, in Lincoln Center in New York and in other places.
Among her professional partners were Valery Gergiev, Jury Temirkanov, Maris Jansons, Eugeny Svetlanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Mstislav Rosrtropovich, Claudio Abaddo, Riccardo Muti, Nello Santi, Bernard Haitink, Edo de Waard Frubeck de Burgos, Seiji Ozawa, Placido Domingo, Ruggero Raimondi, Juan Ponds, Vicenzo La Scola, Jose Cura, Renato Bruson, Harry Kupfer, Trevor Nunn, Piter Hall and many and many other brilliant artists.
